Explanation of the fact that it is called "live house" in Japan

[What is a live house?]

In Japan, music venues are sometimes called "live houses.". This name is especially used when customers stand to listen to the performance.

The name began to be used around the 1970s and became a household name in the 1980s.

The live house is in English, but when people whose native language is English hear this word, it is a little difficult to associate it with a music venue. However, the word is now popular in Asian countries such as Korea and China.

This word is mainly used for small music venues. There is no clear standard, but this word is not used when the capacity exceeds 500 people.

Please use the word "live house" when you talk about music venues with Japanese people. The Japanese pronunciation is "Laibuhausu"!
